Every Participant Is a Safety Officer

Safety is everyone's responsibility. Every participant, instructor, and observer is empowered and required to immediately call "STOP" or "CEASE FIRE" upon observing any unsafe action, unsafe condition, or violation of a firearm safety rule.

Anyone hearing a safety call must immediately stop, keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, remove their finger from the trigger, and wait for instructor direction. No participant will be penalized for making a good-faith safety call.

I acknowledge that I am a safety officer and must immediately report or stop any unsafe action or condition.

Rule 1 — Treat All Guns as if They Are Always Loaded

Never assume a firearm is empty. Always verify by opening the action and personally performing both a visual and physical check of the chamber and magazine or magazine well.

Rule 2 — Never Point the Muzzle at Anything You Are Not Willing to Destroy

Keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction at all times and away from people, pets, buildings, vehicles, and anything else you are not willing to destroy.

Rule 3 — Keep Your Finger Off the Trigger Until Ready to Shoot

Keep your index finger straight along the outside of the frame or receiver and completely outside the trigger guard until your sights are on the intended target and you have made the decision to fire.

Rule 4 — Know Your Target and What Is Beyond It

Be certain of your target and verify what lies in front of, around, and behind it. Do not fire unless the target, foreground, background, and surrounding area are safe and clearly identified.

Holstered Pistol and Rifle Muzzle Requirement

Pistols must remain secured in their holsters and rifles must remain pointed down in the designated safe direction unless an INX Tactical instructor specifically authorizes otherwise.
